Night Runs

Note: MG Sporting Car Club will continue running these night runs in MARQUES absents

Night runs are a fun and social evening of competition for all of the family.  A night run is a navigation event where following a series of instructions a team can verify they took the right course by giving the correct answers to the questions.  Of course there are some tricky questions which might force you to get out of the car or think differently.  A range of directors from MARQUE and other South East Queensland car clubs set the course and give you a challenge.  Each year a “come and try” event is run to encourage new teams to enter and give you a chance to have a go.

Night Runs occur on the 3rd Friday of each month. Start is at 7:00pm at the MG Car Club room’s Unit 8 / 16 Collinsvale St.  Rocklea; Registration from 7: oo with first car out at about 8:00. They take approx 2 hours in and around the SE Queensland area and generally finish is an eating establishment with refreshments available.

Got a feel for it?
Now its time to get serious and enter a Night Run.
What to Bring on the night.

  • At least one member in the car must have a CAMS licence to compete.  A Level 1 (once only licence) or a Level 2NS or above.  See the CAMS web site to get one of these; allow plenty of time for the licence to arrive.
  • Driver’s civil driver’s licence and CAMS club membership card.
  • Entry fee of approx $20.
  • The navigator would be advised to have a few biro's, pencils, eraser, coloured markers a clip board, map book, torch as a minimum.
  • Bring food or drink if you feel its necessary
  • Of course a sense of humour will also help.  Some of the course setters can be quite twisted

Along the way you will most likely be given a series of questions to answer, sometimes objects to find and other obscure things to do.   Although every care is taken to check the course sometimes mistakes are made in the navigation instructions given to you, a good navigator is often able to work around these by keeping ahead several instructions and anticipating.
